About Louisville
Louisville, Kentucky, is a city in Jefferson County located on the Indiana state line along the Ohio River. Founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark near the Falls of the Ohio, it became an incorporated city in 1828. Louisville is known for hosting the first Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in 1875 and for its connections to Muhammad Ali and Louisville Slugger baseball bats. The city developed around a natural river barrier that made it an important portage site. Visitors can fly into Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, which also serves as a UPS air hub. Nearby landmarks include Churchill Downs and the Falls of the Ohio. Louisville’s rich history includes its role as a Civil War Union stronghold and its growth as a shipping and railroad center.
