About Paducah
About Paducah Paducah is a city in McCracken County, Kentucky, with a population of about 26,894. It was first settled around 1821 and laid out by William Clark in 1827. The city is named after the Comanche people known as the Padoucas. Paducah developed as an important river and rail transportation hub, featuring steamboat industries and a major Illinois Central Railroad locomotive workshop. During the Civil War, it served as a Union supply depot and was the site of a Confederate raid in 1864. The city is located where the Tennessee and Ohio rivers meet in the southeastern United States. Nearby landmarks include the Historic Downtown District, the National Quilt Museum, and the Civil War Fort Anderson site. Rail operations continue today under VMV Paducahbilt.
