About Louisville
Louisville is a city in Jefferson County, Kentucky, located on the Indiana state line along the Ohio River. Founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark near the Falls of the Ohio River, it grew as an important portage site. The city was named after King Louis XVI of France and became incorporated in 1828. Louisville is known for hosting the first Kentucky Derby in 1875 at Churchill Downs, as well as being the hometown of Muhammad Ali and the Louisville Slugger baseball bats.
