About Hopkinsville Hopkinsville is a city in Christian County, Kentucky, near the Tennessee border and close to Clarksville, Tennessee. Established in 1797 and incorporated in 1804, it was named after Samuel Hopkins, a veteran and state representative. The town has a rich history, including Civil War military activity and the Black Patch tobacco wars of the early 1900s involving the Night Riders. Hopkinsville is known for the Kelly–Hopkinsville extraterrestrial encounter and the historic Western Kentucky Lunatic Asylum, founded in 1854.
