About Louisville
Louisville, Kentucky, is located in Jefferson County along the Ohio River at the Indiana state line. Founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark near the Falls of the Ohio, the city grew as a key portage site. Named after King Louis XVI of France, Louisville became an incorporated city in 1828. It is known for hosting the first Kentucky Derby in 1875 at Churchill Downs, and for being the hometown of Muhammad Ali and the Louisville Slugger baseball bats. The city is served by Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, which also functions as a UPS air hub.
