About Madisonville
Madisonville is a city in Hopkins County, Kentucky, located in the western Coal Fields region. Founded in 1807 and named after Secretary of State James Madison, it became the county seat in 1808 and was incorporated in 1810. The city played a divided role during the Civil War, with residents supporting both the Union and Confederacy. Madisonville grew as a coal mining center and developed into a rail hub and tobacco market by the early 1900s. Today, it is known for its coal mining history, manufacturing industries, and as a regional medical center. Visitors can reach Madisonville via Interstate 69 or U.S. Route 41, about 50 miles south of Evansville, Indiana. Nearby cities include Louisville, Nashville, and Paducah.
