Founded in 1946 as the Louisville Children’s Theatre with support from the Junior League, it became a non-profit organization two years later. Katherine Kollmer was hired as the first professional director in 1950. The theatre was renamed StageOne: The Louisville Children’s Theatre in the late 1970s. Over the years, StageOne developed a multi-year Russian collaboration and an American touring company. In 2010, it launched the ticket underwriting program called Play It Forward.
