Stage Company is a community theater group based in Carbondale, Illinois. Founded in 1982 by local theater enthusiasts, it operates as a non-profit organization. The company’s first production was Inherit the Wind in June 1982. Early events took place at the Jackson County Courthouse and the SIU Newman Center. Its first full season featured two one-act plays and a dinner theater play. In 1983, Stage Company secured a rent-free lease in a renovated opera house, where it operated until 2005. Since 2008, the company has been producing shows at The Varsity Center.
