About Hopkinsville
Hopkinsville is a city in Christian County, Kentucky, with a population of about 31,000. Established in 1797 and incorporated in 1804, it was named after Samuel Hopkins, a veteran and state representative. The town played a role in the Civil War with occupations by both Confederate and Union forces and was central to the early 1900s Black Patch tobacco wars involving the Night Riders. Hopkinsville is known for its historic Western Kentucky Lunatic Asylum and the Kelly–Hopkinsville extraterrestrial encounter. Located near the Tennessee border and close to Clarksville, Tennessee, Hopkinsville was historically served by several railroads.
