About Louisville
Louisville, Kentucky, is located in Jefferson County along the Ohio River near the Indiana state line. Founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark, the city grew around the Falls of the Ohio, a natural river barrier important for river traffic. Louisville was named after King Louis XVI of France and became an incorporated city in 1828. It is known for hosting the first Kentucky Derby in 1875 at Churchill Downs, its connection to Muhammad Ali, and the Louisville Slugger baseball bats. Visitors can reach Louisville through the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, which also serves as a UPS air hub.
