About Paducah
Paducah is a city in McCracken County, Kentucky, with a population of about 26,894. It was first settled around 1821 and officially incorporated in 1838. Named after the Padouca people, Paducah grew as an important river and rail transportation hub, featuring steamboat dry docks and a major Illinois Central Railroad locomotive workshop. The city played a role in the Civil War as a Union supply depot and experienced a significant flood in 1937, which led to the construction of a protective flood wall. Paducah is known for its historic downtown district, the National Quilt Museum, and Civil War landmarks like the Fort Anderson site. It is located where the Tennessee and Ohio rivers meet.
