About Louisville
Louisville is a city in Jefferson County, Kentucky, founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark near the Falls of the Ohio River. It was named after King Louis XVI of France and became an incorporated city in 1828. Louisville played a key role during the Civil War as a major Union stronghold. The city is best known for hosting the first Kentucky Derby in 1875 at Churchill Downs, its connection to Muhammad Ali, and the Louisville Slugger baseball bats. Louisville is located on the Indiana state line along the Ohio River and developed around the natural river barrier called the Falls of the Ohio.
