About Louisville
Louisville, Kentucky, is located in Jefferson County along the Ohio River at the Indiana state line. Founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark near the Falls of the Ohio, the city grew around this natural river barrier that was key for river traffic. Louisville was named after King Louis XVI of France and became an incorporated city in 1828. It is known for hosting the first Kentucky Derby in 1875 at Churchill Downs and for being the hometown of Muhammad Ali. The city also has a strong economic presence with companies like Humana and Yum! Brands.
