About Louisville
Louisville is a city in Jefferson County, Kentucky, founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark near the Falls of the Ohio River. It was named after King Louis XVI of France and became an incorporated city in 1828. Louisville is known for hosting the first Kentucky Derby in 1875 at Churchill Downs and for being the hometown of Muhammad Ali. The city developed as a key portage site and later became a major shipping and railroad hub. Visitors can fly into Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, which also serves as a UPS air hub. Nearby landmarks include the Falls of the Ohio and Neighborhood House Louisville, the first settlement house in Kentucky.
