About Hopkinsville
Hopkinsville is a city in Christian County, Kentucky, with a population of about 31,000. Established in 1797 and incorporated in 1804, it was named after Samuel Hopkins, a veteran and state representative. The town played a role in the Civil War, experiencing occupations by both Confederate and Union forces. It is also known for the Black Patch tobacco wars and the Night Riders who resisted tobacco monopolies in the early 1900s. Hopkinsville is located near the Tennessee border, close to Clarksville, Tennessee, which is the nearest city. Historically, the town was connected by several railroads supporting trade and industry.
