About Anna Anna is a small city in Union County, Illinois, with a population of just over 4,200. Founded in 1854 after the Illinois Central Railroad arrived, it was incorporated in 1865 and named for Anna Davie, wife of the founder. The town is known for its agricultural roots, especially fruit farming and grape growing for winemaking. Anna also has a notable history as a sundown town, which has influenced its demographics. Key landmarks include the Choate Mental Health and Development Center, opened in 1869, and the Stinson Memorial Library, designed by Walter Burley Griffin.
