About Louisville
Louisville, Kentucky, is located in Jefferson County along the Ohio River at the Indiana state line. Founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark near the Falls of the Ohio, it grew as an important portage site. The city was named after King Louis XVI of France and incorporated in 1828. Louisville is known for the Kentucky Derby, first held at Churchill Downs in 1875, as well as its connection to Muhammad Ali and Louisville Slugger baseball bats. The city’s economy includes major companies like Humana and Yum! Brands, and it hosts UPS’s worldwide air hub at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. Nearby landmarks include the Falls of the Ohio and Neighborhood House Louisville. The airport makes Louisville easy to reach for visitors.
