Edwardsville is a city in Madison County, Illinois, with a population of about 26,500. Settled in 1805 and incorporated in 1818, it was named after Ninian Edwards, the territorial governor of Illinois. The city played a key role in early Central Illinois settlement as the starting point of the Edwards Trace trail. Edwardsville is known for its historic districts, including Leclaire and Saint Louis Street, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also home to Prairie Farms Dairy and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
