About Du Quoin
Du Quoin is a small city in southeastern Perry County, Illinois, with a population of about 5,780. Founded in 1853 when the railroad arrived, it is named after Chief Jean Baptiste Ducoigne of the Kaskaskia people. The town grew near the historic Lusk's Ferry Road, an early route connecting Kaskaskia to the Ohio River. Du Quoin is known for the annual DuQuoin State Fair, which has been held since 1923, as well as historic racing events and the migration of Canada Geese in the spring. Visitors can reach Du Quoin by Amtrak rail service connecting to Carbondale and Chicago. The city covers around 7 square miles and is located about 68 miles from St. Louis.
