About Paducah
Paducah is a city in McCracken County, Kentucky, with a population of about 26,894. It sits where the Tennessee and Ohio rivers meet, covering roughly 20 square miles. Settled around 1821 and incorporated in 1838, Paducah was named after the Comanche people called the Padoucas. The city grew as a key river and rail transportation hub, with steamboat industries and a major Illinois Central Railroad workshop. Paducah played a role in the Civil War as a Union supply depot and faced a Confederate raid in 1864. A major flood in 1937 led to the building of a flood wall. Nearby, visitors can explore the historic downtown district, the National Quilt Museum, and Civil War sites like Fort Anderson.
