About Louisville
Louisville is a city in Jefferson County, Kentucky, founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark near the Falls of the Ohio River. Named after King Louis XVI of France, it became an incorporated city in 1828. Louisville is known for the Kentucky Derby, first held at Churchill Downs in 1875, as well as being the hometown of Muhammad Ali and the Louisville Slugger baseball bats. The city developed as a key portage site and later became a major shipping and railroad hub. Visitors can reach Louisville via the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, which also serves as a UPS air hub.
