About Hopkinsville Hopkinsville is a city in Christian County, Kentucky, with a population of about 31,000. Established in 1797 and incorporated in 1804, it was named after Samuel Hopkins, a veteran and state representative. The town played a role in the Civil War, experiencing occupations by both Confederate and Union forces. It is also known for the Black Patch tobacco wars and the Kelly–Hopkinsville extraterrestrial encounter. Hopkinsville is located near the Tennessee border, close to Clarksville, Tennessee, about 61 miles from Nashville. Historically, it was connected by several railroads that supported trade. Nearby landmarks include the Western Kentucky Lunatic Asylum and Peace Park, which marks the site of a Night Riders’ tobacco warehouse raid.
