About Owensboro
Owensboro is a city in Daviess County, Kentucky, with a population of about 60,000. It sits on a bend of the Ohio River in western Kentucky and covers roughly 20 square miles. Originally called Yellow Banks, it was settled in 1797 and renamed Owensborough in 1817 after Colonel Abraham Owen. The spelling changed to Owensboro in 1893. The city is known for its bourbon whiskey distilleries, manufacturing history, and bluegrass music heritage. Owensboro was also the site of the last public hanging in the United States in 1936.
