About Festus Festus is a city in Jefferson County, Missouri, with a population of about 13,000. Established in 1878 as an extension of Crystal City, it was once called Tanglefoot and Limitville before adopting the name Festus. The city has been home to a post office since 1883 and grew to become one of the largest towns in the county. Located just west of the Mississippi River, Festus covers 5.71 square miles and is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. It is known as a suburb of St. Louis and for its connection to the alt-country band The Bottle Rockets. Visitors can reach Festus via Interstate 55, U.S. Route 61, or U.S. Route 67.
