About Murphysboro
Murphysboro is a small city in southern Illinois, serving as the county seat of Jackson County. Founded in 1843 after a courthouse fire in Brownsville, it was named for William C. Murphy. The city has a rich history, including being the site of the deadliest tornado in U.S. history and home to Civil War General John A. Logan, who helped establish Memorial Day.
