Edwardsville is a city in Madison County, Illinois, with a population of about 26,500. Settled in 1805 and incorporated in 1818, it was named after Ninian Edwards, a territorial governor. Edwardsville played a role in Central Illinois settlement through the Edwards Trace trail.
