About Granite City
Granite City is located in Madison County, Illinois, just eight miles from St. Louis. Founded in 1896 by the Niedringhaus brothers, it began as a planned company town for graniteware kitchen utensil manufacturing. The city grew quickly with many immigrants from Central and Eastern Europe, including Bulgarian and Armenian communities. Granite City is known for its steel manufacturing and its roots as a company town.
