About Hopkinsville
Hopkinsville is a city in southern Christian County, Kentucky, near the Tennessee border and close to Clarksville, Tennessee. Established in 1797 and incorporated in 1804, it was named after Samuel Hopkins, a veteran and state representative. Hopkinsville played a role in the Civil War with multiple occupations and was central to the early 1900s Black Patch tobacco wars involving the Night Riders. The city is known for the Kelly–Hopkinsville extraterrestrial encounter and the historic Western Kentucky Lunatic Asylum, founded in 1854. Historically, Hopkinsville’s economy relied on tobacco farming and railroad connections.
