About Cape Girardeau
Cape Girardeau is a city in southeastern Missouri, located along the Mississippi River in Cape Girardeau and Scott counties. Incorporated in 1808, it was named after Jean Baptiste de Girardot who established a trading post there around 1733. The city became a key Mississippi River port after steamboat trade began in 1835 and was the site of the 1863 Battle of Cape Girardeau during the Civil War.
